The Legend of Jared: A Link To the Past

Being that most of my readers tend to be 30 to 40ish females, primarily moms, I'll explain the title. It is a small attempt at wit. It was the first game in the Zelda franchise to be released for the Super Nintendo back in 1991. You can now move on from that fact and look for the double entendre in today's post.

In many circles, this would get me called a sissy. I was so excited and I couldn't believe I didn't get around to this yesterday, but today I went to Target and picked up the "Platinum Edition" (sounds fancy, but kinda stupid to me) of The Little Mermaid. I still remember going to see that in the movie theater when I was 8. Not Disney's best work, but still a great movie. It ranks right below Beauty and the Beast in my book. I'd say that'd put them at three or four, with Toy Story and Aladdin securely in the top one and two spot, respectively. The voice talent in them just could not be topped. Toy Story is the only one of those movies that doesn't currently belong to mine and Jen's library. My point: call me a sissy, but I loved the movie, and I want to ensure that my kids get to enjoy it too. No insult intended, but I didn't care for many other Disney movies. The princess theme just didn't resonate with me (re: Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty). I think that Beauty and the Beast was different because I found the romance story compelling, along with other elements. Besides, it was a pretty violent movie, and being a male, I am genetically ingrained to like that stuff.

I shelled out some serious dough for a personal journal, but I think it was worth it. I bought one that just the way I behold it makes me feel compelled to fill its pages. I don't plan on being some famous political leader or important thinker of my own time, but I wish I had my great-grandpa Ulrich's (that's pronounced ol-rick) journal. He never kept one. But, he was a great man. He was a prominent figure in the development the of organized educational system in the county in California that my mother grew up in. He was a strong Christian man, and he loved his family. That last sentence there is all I hope to be known for, and I would love to be able to pass that on in my writing as well. So, here's to hoping for success. Besides, recording all of those funny and interesting thoughts I have in my journal will probably translate into more interesting blog postings. It has been forever since I've had to write much by hand (being a child of the computer age), but I'm going to give it a shot.

Today's video clips: The top one is of some of the best hits in NFL history. Being a football fan, I hope you'll indulge me. I love a good, hard, clean hit from the defense. As great as touchdown runs are, the beautiful hits keep me coming back. I love 'em.

This next video is a Mozilla FireFox jokey-type one. I love it, and I have FireFox on my home PCs. So should you.

I think that's about it for today. I will leave you with this question: Do you own a missionary yet?

Blessings,

Big J

I really liked this blog, but I must say, your last sentence was the most impactful. Do I own a missionary yet? No, but I'm quite certain that I need to adopt one in prayer right away, and then when I get out of this eeking through life existence by the skin of my teeth, then in a more tangible way. Thanks for this.

My favorite games were pacman - THE ORIGINAL one, not all that other crap they plastered the name on AND Super Mario Bros. I miss my super mario bros. I don't like the new ones.

My favorite Disney movies are Finding Nemo and The Lion King.

And my husband has to remind me that it's ok to use pencil and paper; I'm always putting everything into the computer or my PDA!

Haha! My husband would so be making fun of you right now for posting about Disney movies...it'll be our little secret:) I enjoy all of them, except Bambi..was that Disney? Not sure, but I don't like that movie, not only is it boring as all get out, it's totally anti-hunting, and I need to eat some deer meat!!! YUMMY!

Ok, I would like to think of myself as one of your readers now :) and am NOT in my 30's or 40's (but not too far...whaaaa!!!) But my dear bestcyberspace friend Liz is...haha!

Sorry, couldn't make it through the whole football video...yucky. But I do have Mozilla Firefox...so that should regain your respect!!

Oh, I forgot....I don't have a missionary, all my money goes to World Vision and Compassion which are basically missionary sites...does that count?

Going to see Beauty and the Beast was our first date. Buying the movie was our first purchase made together before we were married. We enjoyed writing "Benny and Niki Nowell" inside the plastic case. (Cue the "aaawww" sound fellows! ) :)

To flip flop mamma: YES, that counts. As a missionary that Jared "owns", I also "own" a few missionaries. Missionaries tithe too, and not only do we give money to support our church, we also support two Compassion children in Brazil and Honduras. It's a huge blessing to be a part of their encouragement and growth, and to see how they impact their world. Giving back to the Lord by giving to his children ALWAYS counts. ;)

J- You're not a sissy. You are very sweet to have your future children in mind and besides...those movies have some great messages for us adults to be reminded of as well. I love all of them mentioned...and I'm with flip flop mamma - I hated Bambi. ;) However...I LOVED Monsters, Inc. How clever was that movie???
